The Move - 11th Jan 2011

Tuesday we woke up early as we needed to be ready before the removal people came. Even so we were tidying up and putting all things to be sent off together so that the men packing would not need constant instructions as to what was moving and what was not. At 9 am three young men Roy, Dave and Craig arrived. They were pretty impressed at the way we had organised the items we wanted packed and moved. For example the clothes were all moved to a cupboard and half rather than across 3 and books confined to the bookshelves and 3 other boxes instead of spread through the whole house. After a few cups of tea they were removing boxes from the house and the rooms one by one got empty. It was very strange to see the rooms empty after 20 years of seeing then getting fuller and fuller. In total 89 boxes of different sizes were taken away. Of which am sure 40 or so were just books, the one thing we found to be expensive in Australia. Some were novels and fiction, geology, health, nursing and education texts, travel guides and encyclopaedia as well as Paul’s music literature. I must say we had a lot more which we discarded as they were very old text books and those we did not wish to keep. I gave away about a 100 novels to my friend Margaret just to reduce the numbers. She loves to read as well and I am sure will pass them on to her friends. After the removal guys left at 2 30 pm we had a snack lunch. Then put together the last bits for the charity shop and drove to give them. Again it had been a long day and strangely sad and happy. It truly was end of our time in this house and this country.
